| 2009-04-27 | In Memoriam: Derek Weiler |

| Derek Xavier Weiler (WCI class of 1987) passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at his home in Toronto at the age of 40. He was the editor of Quill & Quire, the premier magazine of the Canadian book trade, and wrote about books for several publications, including the Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, Driven and Chatelaine. Derek is survived by his wife, Sari Morrison; his parents, Gerald and Marie Weiler; his sister Marcy Hespeler and family. A memorial service was held April 18, 2009 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home in Kitchener. | 2009-01-27 | In Memoriam: Sandra(Mansz) Sulzer |
 |
Sandra Mary (Mansz) Sulzer passed away October 17, 2008 in Hamilton at the age of 71. She was a WCI teacher from 1960-65 whose subjects were French, Latin and Library. Subsequently, she taught in the Hamilton area and then was a library technician in Hamilton for several years. She was predeceased by her husband, Hugo, and leaves a son, Stephen (Angie), of Seattle, a daughter, Karyn, of Mississauga and a grand-daughter.

Below is the program outline for our 50th anniversary reunion. Venues also have been secured for the Friday and Saturday night events. There's still lots to do, however, so more volunteers and input are welcome!
Friday, June 4, 2010: Registration and opening ceremony at WCI, including tours, memorabilia room (to be open through the weekend); informal evening social offsite
Saturday, June 5, 2010: Open house at WCI, including decade rooms, pre-scheduled times for teachers to be available, sports events; evening banquet offsite
Sunday, June 6, 2010: Brunch; closing ceremony; remainder of day open for self-organized class events

| 2008-06-16 | In Memoriam: Arnold Baerg |

| Arnold Baerg, who was one of WCI's opening year teachers in 1960 and who retired as its Vice Principal in 1987, died unexpectedly of heart failure in January 2008 at the age of 79. He will be remembered as an exceptionally kind, caring teacher and administrator who also was very active in the community. He was a founding member of the Waterloo Mennonite Brethren Church and, after his retirement from public eduction, launched a ten year ministry of assimilation and pastoral care to people new to WMB. He is survived by his wife, Ann, his daughter, Cheryl Creech, his son, Kerry, and 5 grandchildren. A memorial service celebrating his life was held in Waterloo on January 25, 2008. |
